GALvanize
In the spring of 2019, Sophia applied to Laura Okmin's "GALvanize Boot Camp." Laura personally called Sophia to offer her a spot in the program. Each boot camp is designed to help women in sports media through hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking. Sophia traveled to the New York Giants training facility where she conducted a sit-down interview with Giants rookie Darius Slayton. Sophia enjoyed cultivating relationships with 20 fellow female sports reporters while learning from Laura Okmin, a veteran sideline reporter.
"WHO Not DO" GALvanize Series
One year later, in the midst of the pandemic, Laura invited Sophia to work on a new project for GALvanize. Each GALvanize reporter was paired with a prominent member in sports media.
